It’s Official, World Reaches 1 Million Covid-19 Cases

Three weeks after Covid-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the number of confirmed cases has crossed the 1 million mark.
According to data by Johns Hopkins University, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases stands at 1,014,673 at the time of writing.
This also means that we’ve lost over 50,000 lives to the novel coronavirus while around 210,000 infected individuals managed to recover.

Based on WHO’s situation report dated 2nd April, the top 10 nations with the highest number of reported Covid-19 cases are:
- United States – 187,302
- Italy – 110,574
- Spain -102,136
- China – 82,724
- Germany – 73,522
- France – 56,261
- Iran – 47,593
- United Kingdom – 29,478
- Switzerland – 17,070
- Turkey – 15,679
Back home, Malaysia has the highest figures for Southeast Asia with a recorded 3,116 confirmed cases. While the nation records 50 fatalities, 767 patients have recovered.
No one’s quite sure when the pandemic will end, but experts are warning that Malaysia will hit its peak by mid-April.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has advised Malaysians to do their part to flatten the curve by continuing to stay at home and observing the Movement Control Order (MCO).
