The first day of April marks phase 2 of the Movement Control Order (MCO), which also brings stricter rules as Malaysia continues its battle against Covid-19.

Effective until 14th April, Malaysians’ movements are now restricted to a 10 kilometre radius from their homes.

Malay Mail reports that the new regulations fall under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) (No. 2) Regulations 2020, which stipulates that movement is further limited unless you have special permission or a member of the essential services.

Just like previously stated movement guidelines, you can leave your home only to purchase or deliver food, daily necessities, medicine or dietary supplements.

No travel partner is allowed unless it is reasonably necessary, even when seeking out healthcare.

Other stipulations include:

  • No gathering for religious, sports, recreational, social or cultural purposes – except for funerals, provided that the numbers are kept to a minimum.
  • No travelling from one infected local area to another without the written permission of a police officer in charge of a police station.
  • Food operators can only carry out business via drive-through, takeaway or delivery.

Anyone found guilty of violating any of the provisions of these regulations can be subjected to fines not exceeding RM1,000 or no more than 6 months imprisonment, or both.
