Starting April 1, all business premises and stores nationwide will be limited to only operate between 8 am to 8 pm daily, following a new standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the authorities.
This includes grocery stores, supermarkets, petrol stations, and even your friendly neighborhood kedai runcit Cik Kiah.
Furthermore, all e-hailing, ride-sharing, and taxi services would also be made to operate during the imposed 12-hours, however other public transportation services, such as rail and busses, will still be operational from 6am to 10 pm daily
The new SOP is part of the second phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Senior Minister (Defence), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the imposed curfew is totally different from the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) placed in a number of areas in the country.
This means that unlike citizens in the EMCO zones, Malaysians are still free to move about for important matters during the quarantine period.
Meanwhile, another EMCO was implemented at Batu 21 to Batu 24, Sungai Lui in Hulu Langat, Selangor following an increase in COVID-19 infection cases there.
The police have also detained 828 individuals in defiance of the MCO and, along with the army, have made 1,520 roadblocks and inspected over 257,287 vehicles.
Roadblocks at toll plazas across the country, have been increased from 23 to 65 and will be increased to 114 toll plazas.
A total of 67,774 personnel are involved in the implementation of the MCO.
