“No, it’s not about me… It’s about what we can do together as one.”
That was the response given by the Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah when pressed about being called a “national hero†by a number of Malaysians online.
In a short viral press conference on social media, Dr Noor Hisham expressed his disregard for mere praises and explained that combating the coronavirus outbreak was a team effort undertaken by all Malaysians.

In the 21-second clip, the doctor explained that what’s important was the duty and service given by the country’s health professionals during our nation’s time of need.
The DG has been the public face of Malaysia’s coronavirus crisis after former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad’s vacated the post back in February.
Dr Noor Hisham has been praised by many Malaysians for his competence and leadership during the pandemic, especially after the current Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba fell out of public favor over a statement made during a live television broadcast earlier in March.
