The government has so far deployed about 50,000 security personnel nationwide to be at the forefront in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

This personnel’s main objective is to ensure that the public adheres to the Movement Control Order (MCO), and they are made up of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP), the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), the Immigration Department, and volunteers from the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).

Coming from diverse backgrounds, a total of 200 RELA personnel have left their families behind to be deployed to three districts: Kangar, Padang Besar, and Arau from 18 to 31 March.

The RELA personnel are also the ones helping Orang Asli communities to block main roads into their settlements. This is part of their initiative to prevent outsiders from entering their village in line with the MCO.

They were given the honour to join others on the front line and face the risk of contracting the virus because they are the ones who have completed the necessary courses, especially the ‘Crisis Respond Team’ (CRT) module.

The CRT module prepares RELA personnel on dealing with disasters, such as floods, emergencies, and the outbreak of diseases such as COVID-19. This qualifies them to patrol and enforce the MCO side by side with the police and the army.

Their hard work is paying off. Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently reported that 90% of Malaysians are adhering to the MCO.
