M’sian students win global Olympiad tournament in Hong Kong
Malaysia has no shortage of stunningly talented youths. They’re always making the country proud by winning us gold medals in sports, academics, or even singing!
This time, Tang Yi Xuan from SJK(C) Serdang Baru 2 bagged the Overall Champion for his year at the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) Final Round 2019, beating out over 2,500 participants.
However, not only did Yi Xuan win gold, he also won a special award for getting a perfect score!
Yi Xuan’s list of achievements does not stop there:
1) The first Perfect Scorer in HKIMO
2) Winner of the World Star Award (Malaysia)
3) Overall Champion in Year 2
4) Gold Award Winner
The HKIMO is developed by former Hong Kong Mathematical Olympiad Team Team Leader Mr Wong Tin Chun to promote Mathematical Olympiad all over the world and allow Olympiad participants to connect.
The examination paper consists of 5 main topics, covering Logical Thinking, Arithmetic/Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, and Combinatorics.
This year, 30 participants from Primary 1 all the way to Senior Secondary represented Malaysia to compete in Hong Kong.
All together, they brought home 9 Gold Awards, 9 Silver Awards, 9 Bronze Awards, and 3 Merit Awards.
