8 things to know if you’re travelling during the long weekends this month

With so many public holidays happening in September, Malaysians are looking forward to the long consecutive weekends.

Hence, Malaysia Airports is expecting an average of 160,000 daily passengers moving through KLIA during this peak travel period.

To help manage the increased number of travellers, the airport operator has put in place a 1,000 strong volunteer staff and released a travel advisory for passengers coming through their airports.

1. Double check latest flight schedules from respective airlines

With the upcoming National Day, the KLIA airspace will be closed between 9am to 10.30am from 27 to 31 August 2019 to make way for the National Day rehearsals and celebration.

About 85 flights are expected to be affected by the closure.

2. Arrive at least four hours before your flight departure time

Although most systems are back up again after the systems disruptions last week, passengers are still advised to arrive early in order to be at the boarding gate on time.

3. Utilise the available automated processes whenever possible such as web check-in and self baggage drop.

Considering the high volume of travellers, utilising automated processes will help reduce queues and get you to your boarding gate quicker.

4. Be mindful of traffic rules within the airport area

Drivers heading to KUL are reminded to adhere strictly to the 2-minute pick-up and drop off time at the kerbside to avoid traffic congestion.

For those who need to wait and pick-up passengers, there are 30-minute free parking spots at the 5,000-bay Long Term Car Park (LTCP).

5. Utilise public transport as much as possible.

It only takes about 30 minutes by KLIA Express to get to KUL and the train leaves every 15 minutes.

6. Look for Airport CARE Ambassadors or any airport staff for further assistance.

These personnel are easily recognisable through the “Ask Me” sash or the neon yellow vest that they have on.

7. Take advantage of the shuttle service.

If you are passing through KLIA Main Terminal, try taking the shuttle buses instead of the Aerotrain for a less crowded, fast, convenient and scenic alternative.

The shuttle buses run continuously 24/7 between the contact pier and satellite building.

8. Washroom full/cleaning? Use the next one.

Keep a lookout for the signage on nearest available washrooms if the one you visit is full or being cleaned.

There are a total of 238 toilets and 55 surau at both KLIA terminals for the convenience of passengers.

Selamat Hari Kebangsaan and Salam Awal Muharram. Happy travelling, everyone!
