5 elephants rescued from abandoned Pahang gold mine (video)
Yesterday morning (August 20), the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) received a distress call from an abandoned gold mine in Rompin when a herd of elephants got stuck there.
Four PERHILITAN officials were sent to the location to find 4 adult elephants and 1 baby elephant caught in a mud ravine.
With the help of an excavator from another gold mine nearby, a passage was made for the elephants to climb out of the ravine.
The whole rescue mission took about 6 hours.
It finally ended around 6pm when the elephants were freed from the sticky situation and went back into the forest.
We aren’t sure how the elephants got caught inside the ravine, but thankfully someone spotted these elephants in danger and called the authorities for help.
