Well, it turns out that a lot of Johoreans actually walk the talk and are literally risking their lives to walk their way into Singapore.

Last year, an estimated 215,000 people use the Causeway to shimmy into Singapore. The Johor state government recently found out that 60% of them walked on the roads.

Johor Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee chairman Mohd Solihan Badri said that they are proposing to build a 1.2km pedestrian walkway.

He also explained that the pedestrians encroached on the routes used by buses and cars, which is dangerous to everyone involved.

A spokeman from Singapore’s Ministry of Transport claims that Singapore welcomes the proposal and is committed to working together to resolve congestion at the Causeway.

They also carefully noted that there already is a pedestrian walkway on Singapore’s side of the Causeway.

Hopefully Malaysians will be able to walk safely into Singapore from Johor soon!
