Malaysian student named ‘Top In The World’ for maths & add maths by Cambridge

Maths. Additional (Add.) Maths.

Two words that inspire fear, horror and trepidation amongst Malaysian students. (Okay, even in adults, who are we kidding?)

For Malaysian teen Andrew Nge Jing Shuen however, these two subjects are a cause of celebration as he’s just been named TOP IN THE WORLD for mathematics and additional mathematics.

That’s right… TOP IN THE WORLD FOR MATHS AND ADD MATHS.

Andrew, a student at Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School, Petaling Jaya, scored the HIGHEST standard mark IN THE WORLD for Mathematics and Additional Mathematics in International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGSCE).

This brainy 17-year-old took the papers last November and received
the award from Cambridge Assessment International Education at the recently
held Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, Malaysia.

Naturally, Andrew was thrilled by the prestigious award.

“I am extremely honoured to have received this global recognition. I am happy that my passion and hard work has helped me achieve this truly memorable moment.”

According to the Malay Mail, Andrew initially struggled with his education, unable to concentrate with his studies. However, the bright kid turned things with help from his parents, teachers and peers who encouraged and cheered him on.

He also said that he loves maths because of how it challenges
him to solve difficult problems.

With this triumph spurring him on, Andrew is looking to become
a pharmacist and develop new life-saving medications.

We wish him the best of luck on the next phase of his incredible journey!
