Man beats 11 year-old son & wife with skateboard over RM10
In Terengganu, a mechanic was remanded by the police for allegedly beating his wife and 11 year-old son in a sudden fit of rage last Thursday.
The 32-year-old man had reportedly gone berserk after he had failed to borrow RM10 from his son to supposedly purchase mobile prepaid top-up.
For a top-up? Really?
Apparently the man entered the child’s room while the boy was sleeping, asking for the boy’s Duit Raya.
After being denied his request, the man then proceeded to kick the child in the head.
His actions were quickly realised by the boy’s mother who rushed to protect the child. This was when the man then took his anger out on the 31-year-old women, hitting her with a skateboard and injuring her in the process.
According to the police, the man had a history of bad temperament and violent behaviour, having previously caused property damage and even injuries to other people.
The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry reported that between 2013 to 2018, more than 26,000 child abuse cases had been reported.
The Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) states that more than 17% of these cases were due to an imbalance of power and control within a household which often results in family disputes.
Furthermore, 73% of children from these homes live within an environment where they are constantly exposed to some form of domestic violence.
