“Baaaaaaaaa bye” Philippines joins Malaysia in sending back rubbish falsely declared as recycling
The world was recently shocked by scandalous news of wealthy nations dumping their rubbish at developing countries.
But the little guys are done with their trashy behaviour. Litter-ally.
In case you missed the latest update, Malaysia shipped back 450 metric tonnes of illegally imported waste from UK, US, and China last week.

Now, The Philippines has pulled the trigger and joins Malaysia in sending back rubbish falsely declared as recycling to Canada after weeks of threats by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

On May 31, the Asean country sent back 69 containers containing 1,500 tonnes of garbage that was sent to Manila in 2014.
It was a huge sigh of relief for the country, but Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teddy Locsin Jr seemed particularly excited as seen in his tweets below:

The Philippines says the rubbish was falsely labelled as plastic recycling when it was sent to Manila in 2014.
Canada had refused to acknowledge the massive pile of waste sitting at Manila but the issue was causing a LOT of friction. Duterte even threatened to tow the rubbish to Canadian waters and dump it there.
When Canada missed a 15 May deadline to collect the rubbish, Manila recalled its ambassador.
To avoid severing the already fragile diplomatic ties between the nations, Canada agreed to take back their trash and cover the full cost of its transfer and disposal.
