Food Banks coming to Private Colleges
Here’s some good news for you guys in private higher education institutions: The government will be bringing Food Banks to help feed students in lower income groups.
Did you know that at least 50 % of higher education students come from the B40 income group?
Food Banks will slowly help more educational institutions including private universities, community colleges, religious schools and even teachers’ colleges, says Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He looks forward to seeing this initiative as a way to combat food wastage and to promote volunteerism.
According to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, there is also an allocation of around RM 3 million for more than 2 dozen trucks equipped with chillers for the food bank initiative.
We look forward to seeing fewer hungry students and more volunteers helping out their peers.
