Umno appears to be riding on a renewed wave of support, with the party recording a significant increase in new membership registrations following its victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the surge came after Umno, a key component of Barisan Nasional (BN), helped the coalition reclaim the state from Pakatan Harapan (PH), which had governed Negeri Sembilan since 2018.
“The response to Umno’s online membership registration following the Negeri Sembilan state election has been overwhelming, with the majority of new applicants being youths aged between 18 and 25,” Asyraf said in a Facebook post.
He also shared an infographic detailing the breakdown of the party’s latest membership intake.
Young men made up the largest portion of the new members, with 10,080 individuals under the party’s Youth wing, accounting for 54% of total registrations.
Meanwhile, 2,288 young women joined Puteri Umno, representing 12% of new members, while 2,126 women joined Wanita, accounting for another 11%.
The remaining 4,156 registrations, or 22% are regular members.

During last weekend’s Negeri Sembilan election, Umno played a crucial role in BN’s performance, with the party securing 16 of the 18 seats won by BN.
BN, which formed an electoral pact with Perikatan Nasional (PN), successfully regained control of the state after PN won seven seats.
Together, BN and PN formed the new Negeri Sembilan government with a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.
