Melaka state government is making sure every household has at least one thing in common — an email address using the domain melaka.my.
In its latest push to digitise public services, the state government has rolled out E-Mel Rakyat Melaka, a free email account for every household, giving residents a direct line to government announcements, public services and state leaders.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring no one gets left behind as Melaka accelerates its digital transformation agenda, with families living under the same roof sharing a single official email account to receive updates from the state government.
At the launch, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the platform is not merely for one-way communication, The Star reported.
Residents are encouraged to use the email account to communicate directly with the state government, including offering constructive criticism that could help shape future policies and improve public services.
So yes, your feedback now comes with an official government-approved inbox.
The digital initiative also extends into the education sector, where uptake has been encouraging.
According to Ab Rauf, some 193,000 accounts have already been registered involving educators, parents and students across all schools in Melaka.
“Through this platform, information on students’ academic performance and other important school-related matters can be communicated more efficiently,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that E-Mel Rakyat Melaka complements the state’s Kampung Digital programme, which has already standardised addresses for all 618 traditional villages, complete with QR codes to strengthen Melaka’s digital ecosystem.
He said both initiatives reflect the state’s vision of ensuring technology is more than just digital infrastructure.
Instead, it should simplify daily life by connecting every family to government services, information and opportunities through a trusted digital platform.
