Popular entrepreneur and content creator Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, better known as Khairul Aming, has served a letter of demand (LOD) to Maxis following the leak of his personal data, saying he is leaving the matter in the hands of his legal team.

On Threads, Khairul Aming said his lawyers had formally issued the legal notice to the telecommunications provider as part of efforts to seek accountability over the incident.

He added that several reports had also been lodged with the relevant authorities, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Royal Malaysia Police and the Personal Data Protection Commissioner (JPDP).

According to Khairul Aming, a police report was lodged at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to facilitate investigations into the individual allegedly responsible for the data leak.

He said his legal team would take over the case and pursue it until the matter is fully resolved.

Expressing his disappointment, Khairul Aming said the incident highlighted how easily an individual’s privacy could be compromised if personal data fell into the wrong hands.

“Honestly, it’s frightening and upsetting to realise how easily your privacy can disappear. My phone details, payment history, subscription information and even my identity card number, which can be used to access MySara, were all exposed,” he said.

The controversy erupted after a Threads user bragging about knowing information surrounding Khairul Aming’s mobile phone account, prompting widespread concern over the security of customers’ personal information.

Maxis said its internal investigation indicated that the incident appeared to be isolated.

The company also confirmed it had identified the individual linked to the case, was taking immediate action including legal proceedings, and had contacted Khairul Aming while apologising for the incident.
