The Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, has offered Orang Asli families affected by the land dispute in Kampung Sungai Cot, Maran, the opportunity to relocate to her privately owned land in Kuala Wau.
The offer was made in a statement that was initially published on Facebook before the post was later removed.
In the statement, Tunku Azizah expressed her sympathy and concern over the ongoing dispute, saying she understood the anxiety and hardship faced by the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sungai Cot.
She said the Orang Asli are not merely part of the people of Pahang, but also hold a special place in her heart.
As such, Tunku Azizah said any Orang Asli family in need of shelter or a new place to live would be welcome to relocate to her land in Kuala Wau, subject to her consent and the provisions of the law.
“Any member of the Orang Asli community who requires shelter or a new settlement is welcome to stay on my land in Kuala Wau, subject to my consent and the relevant legal requirements,” the statement read.
She said she hoped the offer would provide some relief to those affected while ensuring the welfare of the Orang Asli community continued to be protected regardless of their background or circumstances.
At the same time, Tunku Azizah urged all parties involved to prioritise dialogue, mutual respect and consensus in seeking a fair, prudent and amicable resolution that safeguards the interests of everyone involved.
She also expressed hope that ongoing efforts by the relevant authorities would ultimately lead to the best possible outcome for the Orang Asli community and preserve harmony in Pahang.
The land dispute recently drew national attention after a video of an Orang Asli woman appealing for help to meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim went viral. In the video, she sought assistance regarding the arrest of her husband, who was allegedly linked to the dispute.
The dispute is believed to involve land cultivated by Orang Asli villagers, although the area is reportedly registered under the ownership of a private company.
Following the incident, three Orang Asli villagers were detained by police to assist in investigations before being released.
