Last week, Tetra Pak Malaysia wrapped up a successful run at the Malaysian International Food & Beverage (MIFB) Trade Fair 2026.

Held from July 15–17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, it was a packed three-day event which saw the team connecting with industry professionals and exploring the next gen in smart manufacturing and sustainable food systems.

Helping Companies Scale Up Or Even Just Test Things Out

John Jose, Marketing Director for Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Indonesia.

One of the biggest highlights was Tetra Pak’s end-to-end ecosystem. The company demonstrated how F&B brands can seamlessly take a product from the blueprint phase all the way to commercial production.

By tapping into Tetra Pak’s local infrastructure and extensive regional co-packing network, manufacturers can now test, refine, and launch new products faster – without the heavy upfront capital investments usually required.

“To bring products to the commercialization stage, there’s a lot of steps there – developing formulations is one – and those steps can require a few iterations before you get it right,” said John Jose, Marketing Director for Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Indonesia.

“The product development centers that we partner with are equipped to help businesses run trials on very small batches, which reduces cost.”

Sunflower: A New Star In The World Of Drinks

To help brands tap into the massive consumer demand for health, wellness, and convenience, Tetra Pak highlighted several booming categories, including ready-to-drink coffee, tea, and plant-based nutrition.

Stealing the spotlight was the debut of a sunflower-based protein beverage prototype. According to Jose, this allergen-friendly alternative to traditional plant proteins is highly scalable and cost-effective. It packs a nutritional punch too, boasting high protein content and 98% digestibility rate.

“It has a very neutral taste, its protein content is high, about 50%, it mixes well with drinks like coffee, so we thought this is a good ingredient – we tested it with consumers early on, and it was received well.”

Rectangle Is The New Round

On the packaging front, the team showcased Tetra Recart® – a smart, carton-based alternative to traditional cans and jars for shelf-stable foods. Not only does it maintain top-tier food safety and shelf life, but it also slashes carbon emissions across the supply chain by up to 85%.

In terms of logistics, Tetra Pak says it’s typically possible to fit 10-20% more filled packages per truck and takes up 25-40% less shelf space compared to cans and glass jars.

Tetra Pak also displayed a versatile range of packaging sizes tailored for Southeast Asian lifestyles, ranging from compact, grab-and-go portion formats to larger family sizes meant for home use.

Driving Smart Manufacturing and Sustainability

Digital transformation and sustainability took center stage with two packed presentation sessions hosted by Tetra Pak’s technical experts

“Tetra Pak® Factory OS™: Your Competitive Edge in Malaysian F&B Manufacturing”: This session broke down how data analytics, automation, and IoT tools can dramatically cut operational downtime and optimize resources.

“Accelerate Innovation in Coffee, Tea and Protein Beverages with Tetra Pak Integrated Solutions”: Here, experts shared a practical blueprint for agile product formulation and sustainable manufacturing in today’s fastest-growing beverage segments.

As Malaysian manufacturers face tougher environmental regulations and rapidly changing consumer tastes, Tetra Pak used MIFB 2026 to reaffirm its promise: delivering solutions that cut down on water, energy, and product waste, ultimately helping the local industry hit its net-zero goals.
