Controversial businessman Albert Tei has announced that he will not contest against DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke in the Chennah state seat in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election, opting instead to throw his support behind Barisan Nasional (BN).
Tei said the decision was made after meeting MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, where the two discussed the upcoming polls and BN’s campaign strategy.
Following the meeting, Tei said he decided to withdraw his intention to contest the Chennah seat and would instead back BN candidate John Siow.
He described Siow as a grassroots-oriented and credible candidate capable of serving the constituency effectively.
Tei added that he had informed Siow that he would stand alongside him during nomination day on July 18 and pledged to do everything within his means to help BN wrest the seat from Anthony Loke.
Tei said he had also promised Wee that he would campaign for all BN candidates throughout the official campaign period from July 18 to July 31.
“I can’t wait to tell the people of Negeri Sembilan about what I believe are the failures, wrongdoings and mistakes committed by Pakatan Harapan leaders, particularly those from the DAP.
“My message to Malaysians is simple: if you value the country’s peace, well-being and stability, stay away from Pakatan Harapan,” wrote Tei on Threads.
MCA performed above expectation in the recently concluded Johor state election, doubling the number of seats it won in 2022 from four to eight.
The Chinese party, part of the BN coalition retained Yong Peng, Paloh, Bekok and Pekan Nanas, while also capturing Tangkak, Jementah, Johor Jaya and Layang-Layang.

Nomination for the Negeri Sembilan state election is scheduled for July 18, with polling set for August 1 after a two-week campaign period.
