Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders who believe the non-Malays are still favouring the coalition is in denial, says their own colleague Ong Kian Ming.
The former DAP parliamentarian suggested there is a growing anti-PH sentiment among Malaysians.
However, Ong predicted that those who have “yet to wake up” will receive their wake-up call this Saturday when Johoreans head to the polls.
“Barisan Nasional (BN) has managed to consolidate its campaign narrative around Onn Hafiz’s leadership and how they want to bring credible and experienced leaders to lead the state government,” he said, referring to Johor’s caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Ong was responding to criticism over his recent projection that BN could win up to 53 of the 56 seats contested, while PH might only secure three seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) could potentially draw a blank.
Ong wasn’t alone in predicting another comfort victory for BN in Johor as independent pollster Merdeka Center projected the same result.

Ong reasoned that PH’s campaign had faced a disadvantage due to the coalition’s failure to announce its menteri besar candidate as opposed to BN who is banking on Onn Hafiz.
He said the absence of a clear leadership figure had affected PH’s ability to present a stronger narrative to Johor voters.
In the 2022 Johor state election, BN secured 40 of the 56 seats contested, while PH won 12 seats, PN took three and MUDA, which aligned with PH back then secured one.
The Johor state election is set to take place on Saturday, with parties entering the final stretch of campaigning to secure voter support across the state.
