Anwar Steps Up Johor Campaign As PH Claims Momentum Builds Towards Polling Day

The Prime Minister spent the day campaigning across eight Johor constituencies as PH leaders expressed confidence the coalition was gaining ground ahead of Saturday’s state election.

With just four days remaining before the Johor state election, campaigning by contesting parties has intensified.

Yesterday, PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spent the entire day on the campaign trail in Johor, canvassing support for Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Notably, Anwar also campaigned in the Layang-Layang state constituency, a seat previously held by caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Onn Hafiz served as the Layang-Layang assemblyman from 2018 to 2022.

Besides Layang-Layang, the Prime Minister also met voters in the state constituencies of Senggarang, Semerah, Bukit Naning, Pemanis, Gambir, Serom and Palong Timur, which falls under the Buloh Kasap seat.

At the same time, Anwar urged all Johor voters, including those living outside the state, to fulfil their civic duty by casting their ballots this Saturday.

According to PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, the Prime Minister’s visit over the weekend had further strengthened PH’s momentum heading into polling day.

“Over these last few days, we are seeing that PH candidates are creating a wave. Sometimes that wave can only be seen in the final moments, but there is definitely a wave; we can see it,” he was quoted as saying by NST.

Ramanan said the coalition remained focused and had a clear campaign direction.

Meanwhile, the debate between Onn Hafiz and Pakatan Harapan’s menteri besar candidate Datuk Seri Maszlee Malik will proceed tomorrow night despite the Johor Umno and Barisan Nasional chairman’s absence.

According to reports, Onn Hafiz informed organisers — RTM, Astro Awani and Sinar Harian — that he had prior commitments and would be unable to attend.

The debate was organised following calls from netizens for Maszlee, who is contesting the five-cornered fight in Puteri Wangsa, to face Onn Hafiz.

Meanwhile, Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama)’s campaign received a boost after former Yayasan Peneraju chief executive officer Ibrahim Sani took to the campaign trail in Johor to support the party’s candidates.
