Illegal Flat In Hulu Langat Goes Viral As Online “Hate Campaign” Against Rohingya Continues
The Kajang Municipal Council has issued a notice after it confirmed that the building was constructed without approval from local authorities.

An illegally constructed “flat” in Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat, recently went viral after an old video by radio announcer and actor Azad Jasmin surfaced on social media showing the structure.
The footage he shared showed a poorly constructed four-storey flat in a kampung while he was on a production shoot in the area.
It is unclear where the footage was initially shared but it recently resurfaced on social media, but it wasn’t shared by the actor himself.
This comes amidst what looks like an online “hate campaign” against the Rohingya community which has been spreading at an alarming rate.
Following the viral video, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) said it has taken action as of yesterday (9 June) by issuing a notice after it confirmed that the building was constructed without the approval of local authorities.
MPKj said in a statement that a review found that the construction involved Lot 217, Lot 218, and part of government land (river reserve) next to Kampung Kenangan 18, Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat.
It added that in reference to the Selangor MPKj Local Plan 2035 (Amendment 2), the site is zoned for residential use.
“Aside from that, no application was made through the MPKj OSC 3.0 Plus Online system that involves Planning Permissions, Infrastructure Plans, and Construction Plans for any sort of construction in the area.”
According to MPKj, it has carried out enforcement operations with related government agencies and issued a notice as well as an order based on legal provisions according to the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974 (Act 133).
The land owner allowed them to build the flat and live there
The individual who owns the land where the illegal flat was discovered was reported to have allowed foreigners to build the structure there.
According to a Harian Metro report, Dusun Tua Assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz said the issue had been previously raised in the Hulu Langat Action Meeting since last year to bring attention and action to the matter.
“All sorts of legal enforcement, monitoring, and operations have been implemented by related agencies.
“However, the primary cause was the action of the landowner who allowed the use of his land for settling purposes and the construction of a structure with no approval, including providing utilities such as water and electric supply.
“This does not only violate the rules, but has made things difficult for government agencies in handling the issue effectively,” he said in a statement.
Johan also said that some of the information and actions taken on the matter cannot be revealed publicly yet, as enforcement operations are still ongoing.
He explained that the actions cannot be solely focused on the residents, but on the land owner who allowed and facilitated the activity on their property.
Based on information shared by Johan, it’s believed that as many as 400 individuals of Rohingya ethnicity have built settlements in the same area.
