Negeri Sembilan caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the state government needs a fresh mandate from the people following the political turmoil that saw repeated attempts to withdraw support for his administration.
Announcing the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly last night, Aminuddin said the move was necessary to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the state government and allow voters to decide the state’s future.
“We saw the political turmoil unfold. Initially, there were claims that several Umno assemblymen had withdrawn support for me and intended to leave the government.
“It is not suitable for a government to continue operating under such circumstances. Therefore, a fresh mandate from the people is needed,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

The dissolution, which takes effect on Friday, was granted by Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir after Aminuddin sought an audience with the ruler at Istana Hinggap at 8.30pm on Thursday.
Aminuddin said the dissolution was carried out in accordance with the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959 and that the state government would formally notify the Election Commission (EC), which will determine the dates for nomination and polling.
He also revealed that the decision to dissolve the assembly had received the agreement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Rejecting claims that the move came as a surprise, Aminuddin said the worsening political situation necessitated returning the mandate to the rakyat.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that seat negotiations among Pakatan Harapan component parties had been concluded, with the coalition set to contest all 36 state seats.
However, he declined to reveal the distribution of seats among PKR, DAP and Amanah, saying an official announcement would be made next week.
“The seat allocation has been finalised. We will contest all 36 seats and details will be announced next week. Amanah has agreed, DAP has agreed, and PKR supports the arrangement.”
In April, 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) reps in Negeri Sembilan withdrew support for Aminuddin leading to a political crisis in the state. Both PH and BN previously held 31 state seats in Negeri Sembilan while Perikatan Nasional (PN) holds five seats.
