A poster claiming to quote the “President Rohingya Malaysia” demanding Selayang for the community has been gaining traction on social media, with several prominent personalities — including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah — among those who shared it.

The image, bearing the generic “Berita” logo and designed to resemble a news bulletin, carried the quote: “We don’t ask for much, Selayang is enough for us.”

However, checks found that the graphic did not originate from any established news organisation. The TikTok handle displayed on the image, @the_pandir_post, itself suggests satirical or parody content.

In a Threads post accompanying the image, Nurulhidayah, who is also an Umno Women’s Exco member, wrote: “Enough of exploiting religious and humanitarian sentiments. There should be limits to doing good. Don’t let us end up feeding monkeys in the jungle while our own children starve at home. Put an end to this issue of their overwhelming numbers immediately.”

No mainstream media outlet or recognised Rohingya organisation in Malaysia has reported such a statement, nor is there any record of a body formally known as the “President Rohingya Malaysia” issuing the quote.

Concerns over the concentration of Rohingya refugees in Selayang are not new, with various illegal business activities having previously been reported in the area.

In recent months, criticism directed at the Rohingya community in Selayang has intensified, particularly after screenshots circulated online alleging that Rohingya refugees were demanding land ownership and equal rights in Malaysia.

However, those claims were denied by the Rohingya Solidarity Network last month.

Meanwhile, refugee-related organisations have repeatedly warned against fake accounts and misleading content involving refugees and UNHCR matters.

The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) yesterday also warned that dehumanising rhetoric against Rohingya refugees risks normalising hatred and deepening dangerous social divisions in the country.
