In a dramatic turn of events, all members of the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Executive Committee for the 2025–2029 term have resigned collectively with immediate effect.

FAM confirmed that the decision was made unanimously and voluntarily, describing it as a move rooted in “institutional responsibility” rather than personal interest, amid recent developments that have drawn intense public attention and external scrutiny.

In a statement, the outgoing committee said the mass resignation was intended to protect the integrity and reputation of the association, while preventing further fallout that could negatively impact Malaysian football.

The committee said stepping down would allow global and regional football bodies, namely FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to independently assess governance, administrative and procedural matters within FAM without interference or perceived conflicts of interest.

This is to ensure that any necessary reforms can be carried out with a renewed basis of trust, the statement said, adding that public confidence in football governance must be preserved.

The resignations come just 11 months into a four-year term that was originally meant to run until 2029.

Despite the mandate, the committee said service to Malaysian football must take precedence over holding on to positions of power.

The outgoing committee also pledged full cooperation with FIFA, the AFC and all relevant stakeholders as any review or intervention process unfolds.

They stressed that maintaining institutional credibility is essential to the long-term stability, sustainability and development of Malaysian football.

For now, attention will turn to what comes next for FAM’s leadership structure, and whether this reset will finally address long-standing governance concerns that have frustrated fans and stakeholders alike.
