Round’s Barista Surender Kumar Wins ‘GIGI Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship 2023’

Surender will represent Malaysia at the World Barista Championship 2024 in Busan, South Korea, from 1 to 4 May 2024.

Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association has announced Surender Kumar, a representative from Round, as the winner in the Finals of GIGI Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship 2023.

After this win, Surender will represent Malaysia at the World Barista Championship 2024 in Busan, South Korea, from 1 to 4 May 2024.

GIGI Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship 2023, which was held from 25 to 27 May at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, also announced the runner-ups:

Champion: Surender Kumar (Round).
1^st Runner-Up: Tan Shing Win (One Half Coffee).
2^nd Runner-Up: Sam Tan (Discover Coffee Co).
3^rd Runner-Up: Lucas Eng (JWC Academy).
4^th Runner-Up: Jewel Ting (103 Coffee).
5^th Runner-Up: Lee Tar Chen (Drum Coffee Roaster).

GIGI Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship

GIGI Coffee Malaysia Barista Championship (MBC) is the first competition in the country to celebrate the craft of baristas and encourage local baristas to level up their skills in competitions.

World Coffee Events (WCE) also officially recognizes the championship.

The GIGI Coffee MBC aims to showcase barista skills and promote service excellence, presentation, and self-confidence.

The nation’s champion will also be able to compete on the world stage alongside some of the best baristas in the world.

Round @ HappyMansion is a restaurant known for its contemporary Neapolitan pizzas in Petaling Jaya. The restaurant has opened its doors to customers since December 2022.
