Orange cats or as Malaysians like to call them, Oyen, have always made headlines with their chaotic but fun personalities.

Making headlines today is imposter cat (or should we say catybara) Oyen who has seemingly been accepted by a herd of capybaras at Zoo Negara.

In a TikTok video posted by @nabilnash_, the orange cat is seen chilling with a herd of capybaras hiding from the drizzle.

The 14 second clip has since gone viral and has garnered much love from netizens from all around the world.

According to Bernama, the cat, named Oyen, which is believed to be orphaned, has been living in the enclosure for a few years now.

When we first discovered him, we saw he was very friendly with the capybaras. He would eat with them.At that time, we were also feeding the capybaras bread, which the cat ate.

Bernama also reported that while the zoo’s staff are not exactly sure how or when Oyen moved in with the capybaras, they guessed it was during the Covid-19 lockdowns as they would often see the orange cat during feeding times.

While the zoo usually does not encourage animals to interact with strays to prevent any sort of cross contamination or infections between animals, Oyen seems to make the exception.

Zoo Negara vice president Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana told Bernama, until now, both Oyen and the capybaras have not shown any distress.

He said the animals are monitored at all times to ensure they are healthy.

And as always, Oyen is doing his best to bring in crowds to the zoo just so they can have a peak at the cuteness of the bond these two species share.

Rosly added that the zoo is also thinking of adding Oyen to the capybara sign in front of the enclosure.

The majority of the visitors are aware of this. They came, so many of them, just to take photos of Oyen with the capybaras. But they’re not always successful. If they’re lucky and come during makan (feeding) time, they’ll get their photo.

If you pay the zoo a visit, don’t forget to visit the capybaras and say hi to Oyen!
