The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is giving a special discount for all traffic summonses.

The public will only need to pay RM50 for each offence.

The discount, which includes offences in 2022 and before, is ongoing until 21 May.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim said this special rate announced by the government is more lucrative compared to the one offered by the police recently which was only up to 60 per cent.

It is to give a chance to the public to settle summonses however the discount is not applicable to summonses where the cases are pending in court.

He said the reduction of almost 85 to 86 per cent is part of the government’s effort to reduce the burden faced by the people.

Mat Kasim noted that those with unpaid summonses would not be able to renew their license and road tax.

The public is urged to make full use of the opportunity offered by the government, especially for those with non-compoundable summonses.

Over the years, the police have offered discounts or other options for individuals to pay off their traffic fines.

While many are happy to embrace the discounts, some are against it and called it a waste of public resources.

They feel that it encourages people to delay settling their summonses and repeat their offences.
