Hari Raya Aidilfitri is just around the corner and many Malaysians have already planned their journey to ‘balik kampung’.

In conjunction with that, the Malaysian Highway Authority has taken a few steps to reduce the effects of increased traffic during the Raya season.

One of the steps is to put a halt on the construction works that require highway lanes to be closed.

This was said yesterday by Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi after road users complained of heavy congestion at the KL-Karak Expressway due to road works.

According to Nanta, there will be no road works until 7 May.

Along with that there was also a decision to make sure electronic signs (VMS) provide traffic information.

Road users are also advised to check their Touch ‘n Go’ or e-Wallet balance before starting their journey.

Other than that, the ministry also decided to place officers at the toll booths to assist travelers and to ensure that all toll services run smoothly during this festive period.

According to Buletin TV3, Nanta said that he welcomed the Unity Government’s decision in providing the people with free toll for 4 days starting today until Friday 21 April, and on Monday, 24 April.
