Selangor has once again topped the charts reporting the highest number of domestic abuse cases across the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Selangor reported 944 cases in 2020 which then increased to 1,713 cases in 2021.
The total number of domestic abuse cases recorded in 2022 in Selangor stood at 1,284, a slight decrease from the previous year.
According to data from the Police, a total of 19,268 domestic abuse cases were reported from 2020 to 2022, said the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM).
The ministry also added that of the three years, 2021 saw the highest number of cases, involving 7,468.
The year 2021 recorded the highest numbers for domestic abuse among both genders with a total of 5,131 female victims as well as a total of 2,337 male victims.
The ministry also assured that various initiatives have been taken to reduce the number of cases.
These initiatives include providing accessibility to psycho-social services and doubling the efforts to promote online complaint services through Talian Kasih 15999 and through WhatsApp at the number 019-26 15999 which operates 24 hours a day.
