Netizens were alarmed after an emergency broadcast was sent out calling for those living near a river to be careful.
The broadcast also warned the residents that they may need to evacuate in case the water level of the river continues to rise.
A video where the broadcast could be heard in the background was posted on Twitter by @uglyhaircutz who said it concerned Sungai Klang.

Many confirmed under the comments that they too had heard the announcement.
Twitter user @RizalSadiman tweeted saying the levels of the water seem to be rising and called for fellow KL residents to take precautions and stay safe.

Meanwhile, Twitter user @Elill_E added that according to a source from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) who spoke to FreeMalaysiaToday, the river water levels in Kuala Lumpur seem to be in the Normal category.
He also tagged a screenshot of the reply from Nadma in his Tweet.
However, under his comments, Twitter user @diniemohdfadil said:
I stay nearby, we’ve been hearing the warning since morning, and the level of sungai indeed looks like paras bahaya.

Similar to @diniemohdfadil, Twitter user @frhndd_ tweeted that he too had heard the warning earlier this morning.
Heard as well earlier! Ingat apa tadi. Hujan lebat in KL this morning & cloudy all day. May God bless us all.

The emergency alert system is not new.
A reader who lives near Sungai Kuang in Selangor told The Rakyat Post that the alert has been in use since at least last year.
From observation, the broadcast will be played on repeat until the water level goes below the danger level.
