A boy who was caught abusing dogs in a viral video has come forward to make a public apology on social media.

The 45 second video that was reposted by @majoritioffcial showed the boy who’s face had been blurred conveying his apologies and stating that he would be willing to bear any medical bills that come up.

“I understand no matter how I explain, I should not have done that. I admit that it was my mistake and regret it. I am very sorry and promise not to make a similar mistake in the future. I hope that everyone could give me another chance. I will also pay for the medical expenses (of the injured dogs),” he said in the video.

On Friday, the Malay Mail reported that the teenager will be charged at a Magistrate’s court in Johor Bahru today with animal cruelty.

Johor Bahru North acting district police chief Supt Fariz Amar Abdullah said the teen will be charged based on a Johor Veterinary Services Department investigation.

The suspect was set to be charged under Section 29 (1) (e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 that is punishable by a fine of between RM25,000 and RM100,000 or imprisonment up to three years or both upon conviction.

Malay Mail also reported that a witness had lodged a police report about the incident on 27 March, in which it was reported that the abuser was believed to be a Malaysian.

The teen was caught in an online video where he allegedly struck stray dogs and lit one on fire.

Since then, many have taken to social media to discuss this issue while questioning his sincerity in apologising.

While many called him out for only being sorry because he was caught, others also chimed in that he should be arrested for the crime he had committed.

He’s only sorry (because) he got caught..If no CCTV (had) caught him, he will do it again.

Others also chimed in saying that there should not be any leniency given to the teen despite his apology as the trauma and pain inflicted on the animal were unimaginable.
