Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh was the talk of the town at the start of this week after she made history by winning an Oscar for Best Actress.
The whole country was celebrating Ipoh-born Yeoh’s victory for her win through the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
However, an independent Muslim preacher, Syed Mohd Bakri Syed Ishak also known as PU Syed, took to his Facebook to ask what was there to be proud of in an Oscar win.
In the post he asked how the success made Malaysia proud.
He also said that as Muslims, we should not be proud with something that does not benefit the religion and to let others be proud over the achievement, but not the faithful.
Many were angry with what he said and expressed their opinions.
Nak cakap congrates pun x bole kaaaa ostaaad??? 🤣🤣🤣. Kita nak berdakwah ni biarla berhemah. berbangga dgn pencapaian anak malaysia di persada dunia salah ke ostaaaad??? Kita jgn cepat sgt nk menghukum sebab ilmu agama kita tinggi. Ostad confirm masok syurga kaaa ostaaaad??

One Twitter user remarked PU Syed should also receive an Oscar for being a “gossip Ustaz”.
Oscar should give PU Syed the most gossipest ustaz in the world. Azwan Ali and Perez Hilton pon kalah.
