A Facebook user ReebarSeller recently claimed that he was charged RM5 for picnicking at Port Dickson beach. He also uploaded a picture of the receipt and a red and yellow carpet could be seen in the background.

Smart. I was just sitting at the corner and they charged me RM5 when I spread out my picnic mat.

He urged the Port Dickson City Council (MPPD) to look into the matter.

However, he took down the post after it garnered attention but some netizens were quick enough to save and reshare the image online on other social media accounts.

MPPD caught wind of the matter and proceeded to investigate the issue. According to Berita Harian, MPPD clarified that the RM5 fee was imposed by Wellness Zone in Teluk Kemang as a cleaning fee and not a charge for spreading out his mat.

However, MPPD said the receipt posted by ReebarSeller was fake.

MPPD appointed Wellness Zone as the operator to observe and oversee the area, especially during the weekend.

This is because the area attracts many visitors daily and they leave behind litter everywhere due to the lack of trash bins which would in turn invite stray animals.

The fee also helps to upgrade facilities, infrastructure and landscaping in the area to maintain cleanliness in the public area.

We hope that visitors understand why we charge a fee and it’s not for laying out a mat. MPPD will continue to monitor the whole beach area, especially on the weekends or public holidays, for the convenience of visitors coming here for recreation.

Despite MPPD’s clarification, ReeberSeller still has his suspicions because he claimed the reason for the fee was written on the receipt.
