Anwar The Untold Story To Be Told This May

The University of the Philippines (UP) conferred an honorary doctorate to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The ceremony was held today at the university’s Villamor Hall.

J Prospero E. De Vera III, the chairman of the Philippine Higher Education Commission, and Angelo A. Jimenez, the president and co-chairman of the UP Regen Board, conferred Anwar the honorary doctorate, as reported by Sinar Harian.

The university cited Anwar’s expertise in economics, democracy, freedom, governance, Islam, and democracy on the global stage as well the need for accountability.

According to the UP Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs, Jose Wendell Capili said Anwar’s interest in the life and works of Jose Rizal increased following many visits to UP when he was young under the mentorship of the late Professor Emeritus of University History and Dean of UP Diliman Faculty of Arts and Sciences Cesar Adib Majul.

He also stated that Anwar is respected for managing the Malaysian economy amid the Asian Financial Crisis and for upholding anti-corruption ideals.

Anwar also stated that Manila is a very special city to him personally.

Meanwhile, here in Malaysia, updates on Anwar’s biopic, The Untold Story Of Anwar were released on social media.

The movie is set to be screened in May nationwide.

This movie is about Anwar’s journey from his perspective, which is rarely heard by Malaysians.

According to the producer of the move Zukiflee Anwar Haque who is also known as Zunar, the idea for the movie came about at the beginning of the ‘Reformasi’ movement and he has been recording the struggles of Anwar since then, as reported by Astro Awani.

Local Malaysian actors Farid Kamil Zahari plays Anwar Ibrahim and Hasnul Rahmat portrays Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the Viva Westi-directed movie.

Others include Piet Pagau, Dewi Irawan, and Indonesian actress Acha Septriasa (as Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail), among others.
