In light of complaints about the long queues at KLIA immigration, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said all autogates at the airport will be opened to foreign passport holders to reduce congestion.

The autogates at KLIA will be opened to foreigners, especially from low-risk countries such as Singapore, Brunei, New Zealand, and G7 nations, Free Malaysia Today reported.

The move to open autogates to all travellers, including Malaysians, serves as a quick solution for now.

Prior to this, foreigners who possess long-term visitor passes were allowed to use the autogate entry system at KLIA starting November 2022.

Saifuddin was responding to a question from Mumtaz Md Nawi (PN-Tumpat), who asked about the government’s plans to ease congestion at KLIA immigration counters.

He added that the home ministry is looking into further measures to ease the congestion and wait times at the country’s international entry points.

Recently, some travellers lamented that they queued up for up to three hours before they could clear immigration.

It seemed to be a long-standing issue that had not seen improvements. Hopefully, the current action plan will help travellers have a slightly smoother journey.
