A father who lost his only son is appealing to road users who witnessed the accident on the highway that day to come forward with any dashcam recording of the incident.

On 19 February, Aizat Istamuel was travelling along the Senai-Desaru Highway heading to Pasir Gudang with his wife, Farida Kurnianingsih, and their two-year-old son Gibran Alfarizqi.

In a Facebook post, Aizat said he saw a dark-coloured car overtaking too closely from the opposite direction, causing the other drivers to avoid the vehicle.

Before anyone knew it, the driver botched the overtaking manoeuvre and hit Aizat’s car and the vehicle behind him. It led to a multi-vehicle accident.

New Straits Times reported that the accident involved five vehicles: a Proton Pesona, a Honda CRZ, a Perodua Myvi, a Perodua Bezza and a Honda Insight. Seven other people were injured in the accident.

Aizat’s wife is in critical condition in the hospital after suffering multiple broken bones.

The story gets more heartbreaking when Aizat shared that his whole family enjoyed a holiday in Desaru on Saturday. He also shared on Facebook a picture of his son playing on the beach.

Look at my precious son. He said “Gibran happy main pantai dengan mama, papa” (Gibran is happy to play at the beach with mama and papa). These are moments that we’re not able to have again.

Aizat said he hoped the reckless driver knew what he did and would take responsibility for his actions.

Money and all the worldly things can be replaced, but my son. My only son, is irreplaceable.

Aizat urged anyone who had a recording of the accident to reach out to him or head over to Balai Trafik Kota Tinggi.

They can also contact the investigating officer from the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division (BSPT) at the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters, Inspector Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at 017-479 3329.

The police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
