Some school students decided to celebrate the start of their semester break by vandalising school property and the act was uploaded in a video online. The school holidays have started today until 19 March 2023.

In the viral video, a small group of male students could be seen hurling plastic chairs on the floor until the chair legs broke.

One of the boys also stacked a chair on top of a table to climb up and bend the ceiling fan blades while the other student looked on.

After feeling satisfied with their “work,” the group seemingly exited the classroom in glee. Based on the last clip of the video, the boys are believed to be Form 5 students.

The students will be called up

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the school and state education department have been alerted about the matter, Sinar Harian reported.

The school’s first step is to call up the students to launch an investigation into the matter.

She said the students should be given counselling and guidance because what’s seen in the video was something that shouldn’t have happened.

We will not compromise when it comes to vandalism and violent acts.

Fadhlina added that she doesn’t see the student’s behaviour as a culture and believes the students were motivated by something else to cause them to react that way.

I don’t think this is culture and it shouldn’t be made into a culture in any school. What we want is the ABC culture, that is ‘anak baik dan cerdik’ (good and smart children).

Netizens were taken aback by the students’ behaviours and hoped they would be taught a lesson.

Others showed sympathy to the parents because some parents have tried to bring up their children well, but it’s still up to the children to decide how they want to behave at the end of the day.

Hopefully, the students will see the error of their ways and learn from this incident.
