What started as a family day turned out to be an all-out brawl after a food delivery rider, his wife and a group from the family day were involved in a heated confrontation.

According to Malaymail, eleven men aged between 17 and 62 were arrested yesterday to facilitate police investigations about a riot that happened at a homestay in Sri Gading Batu Pahat.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said that they received two complaints from the fight, one from a man from the family’s side and another from the food delivery rider on Monday (13 February). The two complainants claimed to have suffered head and body injuries.

The riot that went viral

A one-minute video of the rider and his wife being beaten up by a group of men in red attire went viral on various social media platforms.

In the video, at first, the food delivery man was seen punching a bald man in a red shirt who was provoking him.

After landing the punch, the bald man’s family members started to attack the rider, even as his wife attempted to protect him. She also took a few blows herself in an attempt to shield her husband from the attacks.

Viewer discretion is advised.

It all started with a noise complaint

After the video went viral, many blamed the family day group for assaulting the rider.

However, a representative from the family came forward to share their side of the story.

She said that her family had booked the entire homestay for a family day gathering. The music was a bit loud and a woman who was at the pool with her son came to complain about the noise.

They explained that they had already booked the whole place so it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone. The management even said that no one was allowed to enter the area except for their family members.

The disgruntled woman allegedly stomped off only to return with her husband, the rider. The husband was said to have angrily asked who had attacked his wife.

He then swung his helmet at the bald man, but this was not visible in the video.

The woman said that the original video was too long so it had to be cut. She just wanted to explain their side of the story so the public could judge fairly.

Currently, the case is being investigated by the police under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
