One of the two men in their 20s managed to escape with his life after they went bathing in Sungai Pisang at Batu 12, Gombak, last evening.

The Selangor fire and rescue department (JBPM) director Datuk Norazam Khamis said they received an emergency call around 6.57pm.

The department immediately dispatched the Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) from the Selayang fire department and 10 personnel to the scene.

Upon reaching the scene at 7.30pm, they found that one of the men was saved but was stranded on the other side of the 20-metre-wide river.

JBPM personnel managed to rescue the 26-year-old man after travelling for about 1km on a road.

Unfortunately, they feared that the man’s friend, 25, has drowned and was carried away by the strong current due to heavy rain.

The search and rescue mission (SAR) had to be postponed to 9pm yesterday due to increasingly bad weather.

The rescue mission resumed this morning with 10 firefighters. According to New Straits Times, the search has been widened to a 2km radius.
