While most of us would never dream of going back to school upon graduation, two senior citizens opted for the road less travelled when they enrolled at University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).

On Friday (3 February), 77-year-old M Krishnan and 56-year-old R Ramesh sat for their end-of-semester final exams.

Both men, who have become good friends, signed up for a 4-year law degree last October and were sitting for their Information Technology Introduction paper in the Gemilang Hall at the Gong Badak campus.

Ramesh was nervous about his exams but managed to keep calm and answered all the questions.

In an interview with Sinar Harian, he said the last time he sat for an exam was 37 years ago in 1986 for his STPM.

The father of three said it was an adjustment when he decided to go pursue his studies again but the support from his classmates and lecturers helped.

For Krishnan, he had to balance his time between work, family, and studies. It was tough but he made it work to achieve his dream of becoming a lawyer.

I split my time well for my family, work, and class. I’ll do my best to pass this final exam with distinction.

M Krishnan

Both Krishnan and Ramesh definitely served as an inspiration to everyone and showed that our age does not limit our ability and want to continuously learn.

Netizens admired their passion for lifelong learning and the courage to undertake a challenging course such as law. They wished both men the best of luck in their exams.

Some of them were inspired by the two ‘uncles’ and hope to follow in their footsteps soon.
