A one-year-old infant and a six-year-old child are in a medically induced coma after sustaining severe injuries following a hit-and-run accident where the vehicle they were in was hit by a pickup truck driven by an allegedly drunk driver at KM57 Jalan Batu Pahat, Mersing last Saturday evening.

The infant, Nur Hana Humaira suffered a brain haemorrhage and an injury to her hip bone while her sister, Nur Aisyah Humaira, 6, also suffered a brain haemorrhage and a swollen jaw bone.

Both of my children are ‘put to sleep’ and have to undergo a scan test, if there is severe bleeding on the brain, they will undergo surgery.

All of them were taken to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) for treatment and the two children were taken into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Accident in Kluang

Recently, a 25-second video of an accident between an orange Nissan Navara and a blue Toyota Vios went viral on social media.

Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction and the Navara was seen recklessly driven, causing it to ram into the Vios in front, resulting in an accident.

The Vios driver and also the father of the two children, Mohd Yusof Othman, 34, lost control of the car and hit a tree on the left side of the road.

My vehicle hit a tree and spun and after that my vision was blurred.

I saw my two children being helped by the crowd, but I didn’t see my wife at that time. As soon as I woke up from fainting, I was already on the hospital bed (HEBHK).

Mohd Yusof was chatting with his wife and their two children on their way home to Felda Kahang Timur when the sudden collision happened.

I am quite upset because accidents like this (due to drunk drivers) have happened frequently, the offenders should be punished according to their actions.

Reckless Driver Arrested

The driver of the Nissan Navara was arrested by the police from the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division of the Kluang District Police Headquarters (IPD).

Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Md Noh said that the 29-year-old suspect is believed to be drunk and his blood sample has been taken at HEBHK for a toxicology examination.

The suspect’s urine test came back negative for drugs.

With no previous criminal record, the suspect was remanded and the case is classified under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
