Nurul Izzah revealed in an interview with The Star that her appointment took effect on 3 January 2023.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also her father, later confirmed the appointment. Malaysians took to social media platforms to comment on the issue, with some of them congratulating Nurul Izzah.
Meanwhile others claimed that this was an act of nepotism that posed a conflict of interest.
However, there were also some who defended the Prime Minister’s decision by highlighting the fact that Nurul Izzah had accepted the position with no allowance provided as reported by The Star.
Addressing the issue of qualification in the press conference, the prime minister stated the fact that he was once the Finance Minister for 8 years without an educational background in finance.
He highlighted that although Nurul Izzah’s first degree is in Electrical and Electronic engineering, she has also completed her second degree in public policy at the John Hopkins University in the United States.
While all these comments are being shared by the people, Nurul Izzah as reported by Free Malaysia Today said she was confident that with the task in hand she would be able to contribute to the growth of the country.
