All eyes are on Umno’s Supreme Council meeting tonight as its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had earlier said the party was ‘cleaning house’.

Rumours were rife that disciplinary action would be taken against several leaders who had allegedly sabotaged the party.

What we know so far is former Selangor Umno liaison chief Tan Sri Noh Omar was slapped with a six-year suspension order.

However, Noh claimed he had told the leadership to sack him instead.

According to the Malay Mail, Noh said Ahmad Zahid had agreed to his request.

Noh when speaking to reporters appeared visibly upset over the six-year suspension order, saying if that was the punishment, then it was better for him to be sacked.

Undang-undang hantu mana ni? Ikut suka hati dia buat keputusan,” Noh said. (What law is this? Making their own decisions.)

Noh said he was previously called up by the party’s disciplinary board to meet them this 30 January, which made him wonder about the sudden decision to suspend him for six years.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin when met at the lobby of Menara Dato Onn tonight said the party had to make hard decisions as they had been faced with several disciplinary issues of late.

When asked if the decision made tonight was unanimous, he said it was based on input from the disciplinary board.

Joining Noh is Khairy Jamaluddin who was also sacked from the party.

Meanwhile, suspended for six years are: Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein, Datuk Dr Fathul Bari, Shahril Hamdan, Maulizan Bujang and Datuk Salim Sharif.

Also sacked are 5 Pasir Gudang division members, 9 from Putrajaya, 2 from Tanjung Karang and 26 Umno members in Pahang.

In a statement, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said among the reasons for the disciplinary action were standing as independent candidates during the last general election (GE15), standing as candidates for other parties and helping Umno’s opponent during GE15.
