Jabi assemblyman and Terengganu state exco Dr Azman Ibrahim found himself on the receiving end of criticism today after he posted a screenshot of a Malaysiakini news article.

In sharing the news article ‘Cadangan Stabilkan Harga Babi Dibawa ke Kabinet Esok’ (Proposal to stabilise Pork Prices to be brought up in Cabinet tomorrow), Azman congratulated the deputy minister of Agriculture and Food Security, but netizens suspected he was being sarcastic.

“Congratulations Deputy Minister of MAFS Chan Foong Hin for taking a step forward to champion the plight of the Chinese,” Azman wrote.

Twitter users were quick to point out to him that the Chinese are not the only ones who consume pork.

“Not only the Chinese eat pork. Many non-Muslims, including Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak consume pork. We are Malaysians too and have the right to purchase goods at a reasonable price. The government must make sure of this,” replied @ThilaKandasamy.

Many pointed out to Azman that his comment was racist.

“You initiate the hate towards other races and still wondering why other races choose not to vote you????” wrote @tessalikestoeat.

In the Malaysiakini article, the proposal to stabilise pork prices is being tabled in light of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub announced the matter yesterday after a meeting with MAFS which was represented by Chan.
