Malaysians will get to enjoy the Penang free ferry ride programme as it will be continued for another six months until 30 June 2023.
State infrastructure and transport chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the decision involves an expenditure of RM468,000 and is in line with the state’s move to extend the funding for its Pas Mutiara travel pass, Free Malaysia Today reported.
Zairil said the programme, which was launched on 1 July 2021, had been well-received by the people judging by the increase in ridership, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic.
How to enjoy the free ferry ride?
Passengers need to use their MyKad to tap on the scanner provided by Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) before boarding the ferry.
The ferry rides travel between Butterworth and the island frequently.
