Former PKR member Badrul Hisham Shaharin or more popularly known as CheguBard, has drawn criticism from netizens for what he said in a recent ceramah.

In a viral clip of his talk in Sungai Rambai, Melaka, CheguBard who is now a Bersatu member, criticised the government for using the rakyat’s money to pay compensation to the recent Batang Kali landslide victims because the country’s economy is bad right now.

He also alleged that there is corruption in the Pakatan Harapan-led Selangor government to justify his criticism of the government using the rakyat’s money to pay compensation. However, he did not give any further context or explanation of the corruption allegation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced compensation for the next of kin of those who died in the landslide and also for the victims who survived.

Netizens in responding to what CheguBard said, pointed out that the rakyat’s money is meant to be used to help the rakyat and not to fatten up the pockets of cronies.

If that wasn’t the purpose of rakyat’s money (income taxes), a netizen asked whether the money should come from the Milo piggybank instead.

Others also criticised the double standards spouted by CheguBard when he didn’t make noise when the rakyat’s money was used to pay the salaries of absent members of Parliament and when the rakyat was made to withdraw their own EPF funds during the pandemic.

They also called on Selangor MB Amirudin Shari to sue CheguBard for his slanderous remarks.

CheguBard made the comments in a ceramah in Melaka on 25 December. The ceramah was aired live on Facebook. Watch the full video here.
