Names Of Batang Kali Landslide Victims Released, Search Continues For Sole Victim

Nadma has released the names of 30 victims who perished in the incident while the search now focuses on recovering the last young victim.

All 30 bodies recovered from the Batang Kali landslide at Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya have been identified as of 5pm on Friday, 23 December.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said the bodies were identified using four methods: DNA matching, fingerprinting test, dental records, and identification by the next of kin, including through personal belongings and unique marks on the body.

After post-mortem, the Sungai Buloh Hospital Forensics Department handed the remains off to their respective kins.

According to The Star, any latest information regarding the landslide victims will be updated from time to time after getting verified by the agencies responsible.

Search continues for one last victim

The search-and-rescue (SAR) mission, now on its 9th day, is on task to recover the last victim.

The sole victim, who’s still unaccounted for, has been identified as Eng Shao Qi, a Year 5 student from SJKC Mun Choong.

The SAR mission by the Fire and Rescue Department was suspended at 11pm last night, with a focus on Section C of the area.

New Straits Times reported that a total of 91 personnel were deployed and assisted by nine K9 unit dogs and nine excavators.

To date, the 16 December landslide has seen 61 survivors and 30 dead, out of a total of 92 victims. Six of the teachers who went on the trip perished.

According to The Star, U Chin Ong, the Parent-Teacher Association chairman of SJK(C) Mun Choong, said the school will plan a memorial service once all bodies are accounted for.
