Batang Kali Landslide: Death Toll At 21, PM Announces Cash Aid For Victims’ Families

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday visited the campsite in Batang Kali where a landslide struck early Friday morning.

He announced that the government would be giving special compassionate payments to the families of those killed in the tragedy, according to the Malay Mail.

Anwar said the National Disaster Management Agency would channel the funds to the Selangor state secretary and the families of those killed would receive RM10,000 while the surviving victims will receive RM1,000.

Harian Metro said the operations would resume at 8am today.

The death toll from the landslide is now at 21, which includes young children.

The campsite, situated near the Father’s Organic Farm was struck by landslide after midnight on Friday.

The incident happened near the road connecting Batang Kali with Genting Highlands.

According to locals, the area in Batang Kali near Gohtong Jaya has witnessed a mushrooming of campsites in recent years.

The area is popular given its cool weather and proximity to Genting Highlands.
