Badminton fans have decried the expensive ticket prices to watch the Petronas Malaysia Open 2023 next year.

According to BAM, the Super 1000 tournament will be held from 10 to 15 January 2023 at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil and tickets start selling today, 5 December 2022, at 11am.

A netizen @baldhaenton_ shared that the prices of Petronas Malaysia Open 2023 tickets are way above what ordinary Malaysians can afford with minimum wages.

She also tagged the recently appointed Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, imploring her to look into the matter. Meanwhile, some netizens tagged the former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq as well.

Another netizen said the price is unjustifiable due to the poor views from the seats allocated.

The ticket this year for one day costs RM600 for the Super Fan and VIP seats. In 2022, the ticket cost RM680 for all tournament days in the Premium seat.

Other netizens suggested badminton fans avoid buying tickets to lower the demand or settle for the cheapest seats.

A check on the ticket list showed the cheapest ticket costs RM 40 on the first day in the Upper B seats.

To watch the finals, fans will still have to fork out RM90 for one day in the Upper B seats.

Some people believed the price went up exorbitantly because the S1000 tournament is on par with the All England and the Indonesia Open tournaments.

A few of them also don’t think ministers can get involved to change the ticket prices.
